CAUCUS 2001

First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dale Deshotel, Donald Turner, and their respective members at FCI/FDC Oakdale, for going above and beyond the call of duty in Hosting the 2001 SCR Caucus. GREAT JOB GUYS !!!

I would also like to thank Bill Wood, Bob Brantley, and Jesus "Chuey" Sanchez, for the Outstanding Job they did in providing the training. I also want to recognize the following individuals for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend. Michael Kelly (AFGE 9th District NVP), Roy Flores (AFGE 10th District NVP), Paul Palacios (FMCS Mediator, out of Dale and Donald’s District), and Dennis Biesek (NER RVP). Ronald G. Thompson (SCR Director), also attended and presented his theories regarding LMR. We had a final calculation of 129 Registered Members + the 3 Instructors and Numerous Guests that attended, bringing our total to 136.

It was an outstanding week of training !!! The weather was great also! Again I say, Thanks !!!

Upcoming Events:

Policy Negotiation’s: The week of May 14, 2001. Smoking Policy

National LMR: The week of May 21, 2001. I will send out the agenda to be discussed to the President’s the week of May 7, 2001.

The Council has negotiated all Ground Rule items regarding the Contract (M.A.). We hit a snag on only one issue, (Official Time). We are in the process of scheduling a Mediator regarding this issue. The entire E-Board and negotiating team was in Pittsburgh the week of April 30 thru May 4, 2001. We thoroughly discussed this issue, and laid out all the proposals that we received from the members. We were set to begin negotiations on June 18, 2001. Hopefully we will get this resolved, and the process will begin !!!

National Convention is approaching very quickly. I will resend the registration information out to all SCR Local President’s the week of May 7, 2001. It’s not to early to get a jump on this, don’t let time pass you by.

I would like to take this opportunity to say "Thank You" to the South Central Region Local President*s for their support, and confidence in me, by electing me as the new South Central Region Vice President !!!

At this time I would like to welcome all USP-Pollack bargaining unit employee*s to the South Central Region. My plans are to visit Pollack as soon as possible. I will be contacting Roy Flores, AFGE 10th District NVP within the next few weeks to ensure Pollack is chartered as soon as possible. Again, Welcome !!!

My primary goals and desires as the SCRVP is to support all President*s in the South Central Region and assure that more President*s become involved with all of the challenges , obstacles, and tasks that we face. We have a lot of experience and knowledge in this region and I encourage we open our communication lines with one another, which will then show the experience and unity in the SCR, making us the Strongest, most effective Region in the Council of Prison Locals. This can only be done with all of us working together making our voices heard.

Up coming events

Negotiations on Affirmative Action and OIA Policies resume the week of January 22, 2001.

The South Central Regional Caucus is still scheduled for April 23 thru April 27, 2001 in Marksville, La.. I will re-distribute this information out to all Locals within the next week, so that you can begin planning for this training event.

Again, Thank you for electing me your SCRVP. I will attempt to represent our Presidents and all Locals within this region on a national level to the best of my ability. I look for your comments, and ask for your assistance in making our region stronger.

Sincerely,
